Becoming HSLDA Compassion

Making homeschooling possible for families facing hard times.

We have some exciting news to share about an important step we are taking and how we envision making homeschooling possible for even more families facing hard times.

When HSLDA launched Home School Foundation in 1994, our vision was to enable our members and donors to support families who were homeschooling through very difficult situations. Since then, we have provided more than 15,000 grants to families so that they could continue their homeschooling journey despite financial hardship.

As HSLDA's charitable outreach, HSF has been a vital expression of our unwavering commitment to equipping and empowering families to provide the best for their children. It is only natural that these two organizations, with our shared mission, unite as one, enabling us to do more together for the homeschooling community. So, it is with much enthusiasm we announce that HSF is now formally part of HSLDA!

As one unified organization, we will continue the work of helping families homeschooling through hard times by providing grants to widows, single parents, families with children who have special needs, military and low-income families, and those who have experienced disaster. Practically, the work we've been doing for more than 20 years will continue as usual.

However, you will see a few changes in the coming months:

  • Going forward, communication from us—in print and email—will start to appear with HSLDA's logo and the word "Compassion" to visually represent the heartbeat of HSLDA's commitment to help struggling families.
  • This fall, we will be transitioning our online presence from our current, separate HSF website to a new, integrated HSLDA website, which will highlight our Compassion work and provide easy ways for donors to contribute online and families seeking assistance to apply for a grant.

Through this transition, we eagerly anticipate being able to more effectively partner with our generous donors in supporting courageous families seeking to continue homeschooling through the valleys of life—together, we can make the wonderful option of homeschooling real for more children than ever before!
