HSF Ambassadors bring hope on the ground in Texas

A month after Hurricane Harvey struck the Gulf Coast of Texas, Home School Foundation Ambassadors are making a difference in the lives of flooded homeschooling families.

The Texas Ambassador team includes State Ambassador Christina Prewitt and Community Ambassadors Jennifer Roundtree and Missy Pique. If Pique's name sounds familiar to you, it's with good reason: she was the engine behind HSF's Ambassador relief efforts in Louisiana after last year's flooding. The day after Harvey hit, Pique's family braved flood waters and moved to Houston—providentially so, we would say.

Twenty-nine families have already reached out to our Texas Ambassador team for assistance in the aftermath of Harvey. As Prewitt and Roundtree assist these families with grant applications for funds to replace lost curriculum and other emergency essentials, Pique is managing the Texas Homeschool Disaster Relief Network, a Facebook page connecting those needing help with those offering it.

"We have helped connect numerous families in need with generous donors to fill curriculum needs," Prewitt said.

Pique also mentioned that the ambassadors are working to establish a permanent curriculum distribution site.

HSF Ambassador Program Coordinator Ricci Black is proud of the Harvey response team. "The Texas Ambassador team has served in ways uniquely suited to each team member's skill set, accomplishing an amazing amount of disaster relief in just two weeks. Families displaced by the hurricane are finding curricula for their temporary libraries and being connected with host families for housing, and local volunteers are offering their hearts, time, and energy in an impressive way. My hat's off to the Texas Ambassador team!"
