The Right Choice Program
Mission: The Right Choice Program provides basic educational resources to parents who desire to begin homeschooling but struggle financially.

Homeschooling . . . The Right Choice!
When a family is first making the decision to homeschool, the parents face many pressures. For a family already struggling financially, sometimes the cost of starting to homeschool is just too much - and this tips the balance away from home education.

That is where Right Choice comes in!

By working through referrals from homeschool support groups and members of the homeschooling community as a whole, the Right Choice Program can provide families entering homeschooling with the basic educational resources they need to begin: curriculum and technological assistance.

Initially, the Right Choice Program will serve as a pilot program for families living in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. We will only be taking a total of 15 families from all three states into this pilot program. The vision for this program however, is to eventually expand the program to other states.

To Help A Family You Know:

If you know of such a family, we would love to have you become involved. As a member of a homeschooling family, you are well positioned to know many of the needs in your homeschool community. Consequently, you can help us by identifying qualified families and encouraging them to apply for this program.

How can you help?
You can help us by referring to us families in your community who are longing to homeschool but truly cannot afford to do so. Additionally, if you're a homeschooler with experience and compassion to share, you can serve as a mentor for a family.

What are we looking for in a mentor?

  • Someone who will serve as a mentor for one school year
  • Communicate regularly through email, phone, or in person with the family
  • Provide general homeschooling advice to the family
  • Pray for and encourage the family
  • What does it mean to be a mentor in the Right Choice Program?
If you would like to be a mentor for the Right Choice Program, please contact Stephanie Claborn. As a mentor, your experience with homeschooling serves as an invaluable resource for those just beginning homeschooling. You will be able to share your skills and experience with another family, so they can continue making the Right Choice.

Tell A Friend About "The Right Choice!"
Tell a friend about this program and invite them to apply to the program.

If Your Family Is Interested In Applying:

The Home School Foundation wants to help remove the financial burden from families considering homeschooling so that they will not miss the opportunity of a lifetime: to give their children the best start in education!

What does a family receive if accepted into our Right Choice Program?

  • Resources to purchase curriculum
  • Computer, printer and internet access, if needed
  • Membership with HSLDA
  • A copy of the book The Right Choice, by Chris Klicka

What are the guidelines for qualifying?
  • All of their children are in or below 6th grade
  • All school-aged children in the family need to be homeschooled
  • They must have genuine financial need. We will ask the family for specific information to verify their financial status
  • The family must be willing to participate in a homeschooling group in their area and participate in a mentor relationship

    Why Have A Mentor?
  • A mentor will help guide the new homeschooling family.
  • A mentor will not be required to do any of the responsibilities of the parents, but is merely a help for the parents
  • We will contact the mentor twice a year to see how everything is going with the family
  • The mentor should be available to answer questions or concerns presented by the homeschooling family, or refer them to HSLDA if it's a legal question
