Family Off to Good Start with Help from HSF Ambassador
Last summer, Aaron and Patrice Johnson made the decision to homeschool their three teenage daughters—Tiera, Lexie, and Jada.
But the Johnsons couldn’t quickly pull together the funds they needed to purchase curriculum. Patrice has an illness that requires a lot of medical expenses, and Aaron is in college.
“We were wondering how we could do this,” Patrice said.
However, the Johnsons’ plan to homeschool began to take shape when they met Kathryn Dillow, Home School Foundation’s State Ambassador for Nebraska, at a Nebraska homeschool conference in Omaha.
As an HSF Ambassador, Dillow raises funds for Nebraska homeschooling families in need and then disperses them when she learns of a family who could benefit from a grant. And as a homeschooling veteran, Dillow was happy to help a new homeschooling mom like Patrice.
“I met with Patrice to help her develop a plan for the upcoming year, which allowed me to clearly identify their need and understand how I could help them through the HSF Nebraska Ambassador Fund,” Dillow said.
After receiving assistance from HSF, Patrice shared her grateful heart. “Thank you so much for helping us get started [homeschooling],” she said. “We were able to get some books and a much needed, updated dictionary. We also got a Scrabble board game to help our dyslexic child who struggles with reading but learns better with hands-on activities—lessening battles between mother and daughter. Again, thanks for the blessing.”
