Providing for Children of Single Parents
The Home School Foundation’s fund spotlight this April is the Children of Single Parents Fund. In addition to serving widows, the Foundation comes alongside homeschooling single parents, providing grants to cover the cost of curriculum and other homeschool supplies. This help frees up much-needed funds for rent, groceries, or car repairs. Here are just a few stories of single parent families that we’re honored to serve.
Melissa* and her son, Jordan, escaped an abusive situation after a divorce. While their new living situation was small, they now had a safe place to begin to heal and rebuild their lives. By homeschooling Jordan, Melissa was able to nurture her son and help him work through his problems by teaching him about Jesus’ love. “[Jesus] is the only thing that has helped us through life, because we have no one else.” Before, Melissa says that “fear clinched her,” but now she holds firmly to God’s promise to “be the father to the fatherless.”
When Isabel’s* husband abandoned their family, she had no where to turn. She and her daughter had no extended family in the area and so ended up moving out of state. They found a new church to attend, but her daughter began to feel like God didn’t care about them after their church provided for others in need but somehow overlooked them. After Isabel received a grant from the Home School Foundation, she rejoiced. “Thank you for showing [my daughter] God always makes a way and always cares! Your gift has blessed us with much more than curriculum.”
Last fall, Christy* and her daughter, Mia, received a curriculum grant from HSF along with a one-year HSLDA membership scholarship. Christy excitedly wrote us back, “Your gift enabled me to purchase the school supplies we needed for my daughter, freeing up enough money so we could move out of a very abusive apartment situation into a wonderful, pleasant one! We prayed together for God’s help and he answered our prayer in a most delightful way and used HSF to do it . . . Many thanks to those who donated funds to HSF to make all this possible.”
If you would like to help single parent homeschool families like these, please consider giving to the Children of Single Parents Fund. In honor of Mother’s Day, we are sending a special wildflower seed packet for a gift of $5 or more to this fund through June 30 or until we run out. It’s our way of saying thank you. It’s also a good reminder that the love a mother plants in her child blooms forever!
