2009 Christmas Card Contest
The Home School Foundation is hosting a special contest which gives homeschoolers an opportunity to design the artwork for our Christmas greeting card to widows and single mothers.
During last year’s floods, hurricanes, and other natural disasters, the Home School Foundation stood ready to respond to homeschoolers who found themselves facing dire straits.
An Iowa mother of five wrote us describing her family’s situation during the flooding there:
“Our basement got several inches of water in one night and stayed this way for a couple weeks. When the rain finally slowed, and the water stopped coming in, we faced a new problem: mold. My husband had to demolish pretty much the whole basement. The paneling and sheet rock had to be cut out and hauled to the trash. Same with the carpet and the furniture.”
“We lost our school curriculum-books, workbooks, papers, supplies, and important files. Most of all, we lost half of our house. Our basement is where we conduct school every day.”
Facing $10,000 in repairs in addition to the cost of replacing educations materials, this family requested assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, but their request was turned down, because basements aren't considered “essential” to the home.
“Through all of this—even as the water was rushing into our basement, destroying everything—we knew, and still know, that God is taking care of us, no matter what,” she wrote.
Providentially, this family learned about the Home School Foundation and contacted us. We were able to help them with some of their school materials and other basic needs, so they could get back on their feet and continue educating their children.
Her home damaged by a hurricane in Louisiana, another homeschooling mother wrote to thank us after receiving news that her family had qualified for an HSF grant:
“Words cannot express what a tremendous blessing this grant will be for my children. These last few weeks have certainly been a test of faith for me. At this point, just getting an insurance agent to come to my house is a test of faith.”
“I think that we all too often forget that God is very concerned about all areas of our lives—whether it’s homeschooling, groceries, our home, or our family. Many times we think of God in the spiritual sense and forget that He is connected with our physical well—being also.”
“I believe God’s word that “All things work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.” God is truly using what the devil meant for evil to reaffirm my faith and build the faith of my children.”
“My son went to bed saying, “Tell me, what is impossible with God? Nothing, nothing is impossible with God.” As a parent, it is my greatest job to see my children praise Him in the midst of the storm.
“May God richly bless you and the entire staff of the Foundation. You will forever be in our hearts and prayers.”
These letters prove just two examples of the many families the foundation has been blessed to be able to help recently. If you need assistance or wish to give to other homeschoolers in need, please visit the Foundation’s website at www.homeschoolfoundation.org or call us at 540-338-8688.

Home School Foundation Annual Report 2008
The 2007-2008 Fiscal Year was monumental for the Foundation with over a million dollars raised and even more disbursed through grants and other expenses. This year, we were able to give out more than we received, so we truly were able to reach more families than ever before!
