Early in the morning, Sheila’s husband of nine years left his job at Fed Ex and never returned home. She was a homeschooling mother at the time of his disappearance, and “With [my husband] gone, there was no income coming in to pay our bills.” Over the next several months, Sheila found a job and began working to support herself and her children.
During this time, she was unable to homeschool. “I had an immediate uneasiness with this decision and knew the Lord was telling me that we were not done with homeschooling. I was scared, needed to provide for our family, and did not know how I would ever be able to do both. But, I told the Lord that if this is what He wanted, then I was willing… I hit my knees and asked the Lord to open doors if this was the direction He wanted me to go and to close them if it was not.”
The Lord did open the door for her, and through a home-based business, she was able to home-educate her children and provide financially for them. Although, the blessing of being able to homeschool was immense, Sheila found that her income each month was just enough to cover basic necessities, while leaving nothing for supplies and curriculum fees. “Once again, I told the Lord that if this was what He wanted, then he would need to provide, and once again, He did just that.”
At the time Sheila contacted the Home School Foundation, her husband had been a missing person for nearly two years. In regards to the scholarship she received she said, “We thank our Heavenly Father for the wonderful staff at the Home School Foundation and for all those who so generously give… I pray the Lord’s richest blessings on you all! God has been so good to us and He continues to provide for us in ways I could never have imagined.”
