God Put Us All Together

The babies we have adopted always come with many health concerns, such as fetal alcohol syndrome, crack and cocaine addictions, diabetes ensipidious, septoaptic dypslasia, blindness, mental retardation, extremely low birth weight (1 lb. 9 oz.), syphilis, respiratory failure, feeding tubes, and/or HIV mothers. Against extreme odds, these children have made remarkable recoveries. We thought we had made it until several of them reached school age. Due to our conviction that we should teach our own children (home school), we did not enroll our children in public education. We were especially concerned that our son with ADHD would not do well in a school setting. Our pediatrician agreed with us that home schooling was appropriate for our children.

The Watts Family. Back row: Jonah, Debbie (babysitter), Dianna, Hannah, Mark, Joshua. Second row: Destiny, Brandi, Ashley. Front row: Breonna, Joel, Jasmine. (In addition to their adopted children, the Watts have a 24-year-old son and his wife—not pictured.)

The children need one-on-one tutoring. They are progressing but still there are problems with dyslexia and dysgraphia. We have hired a private tutor who is very skilled in these fields and happens to also work with the school system in another county, but we have to pay her out of our own pocket. It is a real financial hardship since I do not work outside the home. I pray one day for special funding to help our family with this expense.

Our children are such a blessing. Mark and I feel honored to have been able to adopt each one of our children. Our family is racially mixed and none of the children is biologically related. I feel we have the best family in the world. God put us all together and He does all things well.
